Refractive Lens Exchange

Refractive Lens Exchange Surgery (RLE)

Refractive Lens Exchange Surgery (RLE) is an elective surgical procedure. It is ideal if you struggle with near focus, distance focus, astigmatism or general vision correction. Your natural lens is surgically removed and replaced with a full-focus lens implant. The full-focus lens implant will provide a range of vision, from near to far, without the hassle of full-time dependence on glasses or contact lenses. As an added bonus, after RLE, you will never develop a cataract.

Due to the fact that an RLE is considered elective, most insurance providers do not cover the procedure. Affordable financing options are available for your convenience.

Full Focus Lens Implants

Full focus lenses are also referred to as “multifocal lenses.” They have been designed to improve vision at all distances – up close, far away and everything in between. These advanced intraocular lenses (IOL) give Refractive Lens Exchange patients a chance to live free of their glasses.

Full focus lenses, such as the Symfony, ReSTOR, Tecnis Multifocal and Cystalens intraocular lenses (IOL), can restore your ability to read the newspaper, sew, play cards, and drive. These lenses allow patients to have the opportunity to see many other things near and far without the hassle of reading glasses, bifocals, progressive lenses or contact lenses.

During your consultation with Clemson Eye, one of our surgeons will determine if you are a candidate for a Refractice Lens Exchange with a multifocal lens. Candidacy depends upon your general eye health and amount of refractive error.
