Dr. Riddle offers clinical and surgical treatments in a variety of specialties including bladeless cataract and LASIK surgery, PRK, corneal transplants, and advanced glaucoma treatments. He was the first or among the first in the Upstate to perform/utilize the following technology: DSEK, ECP, iStent, Corneal Cross-linking, Express Shunt, Symfony IOL, Lipiflow, MLT, Prokera, and Topo-guided LASIK.
Dr. Riddle has over 23 years of ophthalmic surgical experience and has performed over 100,000 cataract and refractive procedures since he served as chief resident in Ophthalmology at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He specializes in “visual freedom” procedures, including laser vision correction (Topography-guided LASIK/advanced surface ablation), Femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery or FLACS (bladeless), and refractive lens exchange (RLE) with “lifestyle” implants, such as the PanOptix multifocal intraocular lens.
Dr. Riddle is also a cornea and external disease specialist and regularly performs corneal transplantation (DMEK/DSEK/PKP), advanced pterygium surgery, superficial keratectomies and lesion excisions, including ocular surface neoplasia. He also cares for severe dry eye patients with the most up-to-date treatments including LipiFlow and ProKera. He performs the latest minimally invasive glaucoma procedures (MIGS) such as iStent and Hydrus, as well as multiple lasers for glaucoma including SLT, MLT, ECP, and MP3. Dr. Riddle’s extensive LASIK experience dates back to 1996, when he participated in pivotal FDA studies during his corneal fellowship.
He has served as co-medical director of Laser Vision Correction at Carolinas Center for Sight/Coastal Eye Group, along the Grand Strand of South Carolina and the Pee Dee region. Dr. Riddle served as the medical director at TLC Laser Eye Center in Greenville and was past co-medical director of TLC in Charleston and Columbia. Dr. Riddle currently performs surgery at Piedmont Surgical Center in Greenville as well as at The Surgery and Laser Center at Professional Park in Clinton, South Carolina. He performs laser vision correction procedures and other miscellaneous procedures at the Clemson Eye Laser Vision Correction Center at the Pelham Road location in Greenville. Dr. Riddle attended Clemson University and received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He served his internship at Greenville Memorial Hospital where he won the Jackson Award “as a young physician of exceptional promise”. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at MUSC Charleston, where he served as chief resident. After residency, he was selected for a prestigious corneal fellowship in laser vision correction and corneal transplantation at Corneal Consultants of Indiana/Price Vision Center.
Dr. Riddle is a board-certified member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a current member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a surgeon for Servants for Sight organization, which provides the gift of sight to help the disadvantaged. He has published articles in peer-review journals. He is particularly interested in medical mission work in faraway places. Dr. Riddle has been a consultant and speaker for leading ophthalmologic and pharmaceutical companies.
Dr. Riddle enjoys spending time with his beautiful wife Lee and their three teenage children. In his free time his interests include jujitsu, health and fitness, the outdoors, golf, Clemson Football, snow skiing, and water sports on Lake Keowee.
