Laser Cataract Surgery

Clemson Eye invested in the very first LenSx® laser in Upstate South Carolina at Piedmont Surgery Center in Greenville.

In addition, we were among the first 50 practices in the nation to offer this revolutionary technology for a truly customized cataract treatment.

The LenSx® laser can be offered in some cases to help treat astigmatism based on the surgeon’s clinical judgment and can offer other advantages for some patients because of its ability to create a consistently reproducible opening in the lens capsule and soften a hard cataract. It is 100% customized for your eye. The procedure takes about 15 minutes.

Customized for each unique eye, laser cataract surgery performs advanced astigmatism treatments to ensure the very best visual result.

Removing Cataracts with a Laser

“Many patients have inquired, ‘Can my cataract be removed with a laser?’ This once futuristic notion is now a reality. The LenSx laser boosts our surgical potential since the precision of a laser trumps a handheld blade many times over, even a blade in the hands of a highly skilled surgeon. Laser cataract surgery is the approach I would recommend for my patients,” said Joseph Parisi, MD.

LenSx® Laser is Not Experimental

The LenSx® is not experimental. More than 27,000 LenSx® laser cataract surgeries have been performed in 30 countries by over 600 surgeons. The eye surgeons at Clemson Eye were among the first ophthalmologists to perform laser-assisted cataract surgery.

Clemson Eye is a Leader in Refractive Surgery

A leader in refractive surgery, Clemson Eye owns the first LenSx® Laser system to the Upstate at the Piedmont Surgery Center in Greenville, SC. “As LASIK surgeons, we have been anxious to use laser technology for cataract surgery. Now, the LenSx® allows us the opportunity to offer this revolutionary treatment to our patients,” says Dr. Parisi.

The Greenville News featured an article about how Lasers Revolutionize Cataract Surgery. In addition, our eye surgeons, Drs. Joe Parisi and Brian Johnson, were interviewed on Greenville’s Ch. 7 local news show Your Carolina. They discussed the new LenSx laser cataract removal technology and how Clemson Eye is among the first ophthalmology practices to offer the LenSx as an option to our patients.
