CLEMSON, SC (August 31, 2015) – Clemson Eye is pleased to again be a sponsor of this year’s Goldstein Charity Golf Tournament on Friday, September 25.

This is the 11th year for the event, which benefits Helen’s Hugs, a charitable organization supporting therapeutic horseback riding for special needs children.

Helen’s Hugs was founded to honor the life and interests of Helen Corontzes, who died tragically in 2006 at age 19 following a car accident. The young nursing student was an accomplished equestrian and a young woman of “generous spirit” who volunteered with programs benefitting both children and nursing home patients.

“We’ve supported this local cause since its inception. Our two daughters went to school with Helen; we knew her and her family. We also know Paul Goldstein, who co-founded Helen’s Hugs with Helen’s parents, and who organizes the annual Goldstein Golf Tournament to support it. Clemson Eye sponsors many worthwhile local charities, but this one is particularly close to our hearts,” says Dr. Joseph Parisi, Chief Ophthalmologist and Medical Director of Clemson Eye.

The event organizer, Paul Goldstein, remembers Helen as a “special girl who touched the hearts of so many” in the Clemson community. “Her spirit lives on through the Helen’s Hugs charity, the 5K run in the spring and the golf tournament in the fall.”

Clemson Eye is again sponsoring the putting contest. The winner will receive a pair of Oakley sunglasses with special golf lenses and a chance to win a free Lasik procedure – a $5,000 value. If the winner is not a candidate for Lasik, they can gift the prize to someone else. You don’t have to be registered for the golf tournament to come and participate in the putting contest or raffles.

The event will be held at the Smithfield’s Country Club in Easley, SC. The putting contest starts at noon and a shotgun start goes off at 1 p.m. Interested players can get information on Facebook (https://goo.gl/1tBgh3) or call Goldstein at 864-650-1183 to register.
