Dr. Brian Johnson is native to the Upstate, graduating from Seneca High School. He earned his undergraduate degree in Chemistry with a minor in Political Science, Summa Cum Laude, at Clemson University. In 1999, he was awarded the Clemson University Chemistry Faculty Award. At the Medical University of South Carolina, he obtained his medical degree and won the MUSC College of Medicine Alumni Award. While at MUSC, he earned several honors including those in Ophthalmology, Pediatrics, Neurology, and Internal Medicine. Dr. Johnson performed an internship in Internal Medicine at the top-rated Pennsylvania State University, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. He then completed his Ophthalmology residency at Penn State where he served as Chief Resident his final year and won the Penn State Vision Research Award for the most outstanding and significant eye care research. During his residency at Penn State, he performed innovative research in lens implants in children and intraoperative floppy iris syndrome in cataract surgery.
Dr. Johnson and his family returned to Clemson, SC in 2007 to join the team of doctors at Clemson Eye and become active staff at Oconee Memorial Hospital in Seneca, SC. He practices comprehensive ophthalmology including surgical treatment of cataracts as well as laser surgery for glaucoma and retinal disease and medical management of glaucoma and other eye diseases. In 2009, he become certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Johnson lives in North Anderson with his wife Anna, a registered nurse, and their three children. He enjoys golf, boating, and attending Clemson sporting events. An active member of church, he enjoys history and travel with his family.
