Dr Allan J "Buddy" ThompsonAllan J. “Buddy” Thompson, Jr. MD, was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. At Clemson University in Clemson, SC, he obtained a BS in Chemical Engineering with high honors in 1969.  Dr. Thompson attended medical school at the University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC and became a Doctor of Medicine in January of 1978  receiving the Lange Award as the 2nd Honor Graduate. He did a medical internship followed by a Residency in Ophthalmology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina where he served as Chief Resident and founded Easley Eye Associates in 1981.  In 2008, Dr. Thompson and Easley Eye Associates joined Clemson Ophthalmology to extend their scope of medical and surgical eye care across the Upstate.  

Dr. Thompson worked hospital appointments at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center in Easley, South Carolina. From 1989 to 1990, he was vice president of the Medical Staff. He also holds many prestigious positions at various professional organizations: the South Carolina Medical Association, Pickens County Medical Society where he was President in 1986, South Carolina Society of Ophthalmology where he served on the Board of Directors from 1993 to 1994, and the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society where he served as President of the South Carolina Alpha Chapter from 1977 to 1978. In 2005, Dr. Thompson was selected by peers to “Best Doctors in America.”

A locally renowned and distinguished medical doctor, Dr. Thompson also has many other community involvements which occupy his time. He is an Elder at the Easley Presbyterian Church, a Troop Committee member and Eagle Scout of the Boy Scouts of America, and a former member of the Board of Directors at the Easley Rotary Club. Since 1992, Dr. Thompson has participated in the District Chairman Fund Raising Campaign and the Blue Ridge Council Advisory Board of Directors. He is the current Organizing and Founding Director and Vice Chairman of Peoples National Bank.  He is President of the Keowee Toxaway, Co., LLC since 1999 which founded The Reserve at Lake Keowee. At Clemson University he served as a member on the Board of Visitors from 2003 to 2006, a member of the Leadership Team in 2007, and currently serves on the Advisory Board Rutland Center for Ethics since June of 2001. He has served on Medical Missions Teams in Brazil in 1992, 1993, and 2000, and in Mexico in 1998. He was a member of the Storm Eye Institute (MUSC) Board of Directors from 1996 to 2000 and of the Admissions Committee at the Medical University of South Carolina as an Outside Interviewer since 1996 to this present day.

Dr. Buddy Thompson’s hobbies include hiking, jogging, photography, golf, water sports, and traveling.
