Just released:

The ReSTOR 3 ADD lens implant! This is the third generation of ReSTOR lens implant for cataract surgery patients with improved intermediate distance. Clinical studies from Storm Eye Center, Medical University of SC, Charleston, SC had some common themes. The ReSTOR 3 ADD had FDA release at the end of January 2009.

  1. Distance in all cases was 20/20 with one Flomax pt. being 20/30
  2. There was a reading “range” of 25-50 cm or roughly 16-26 inches.
  3. This range was J-1 to J-2 THROUGH OUT that distance. Not just at 6-8 inches from the face.
  4. All patients commented positively on their computer reading ability. (We tested by seating them in front of the monitors in the exam lane.)
  5. One pt. had a 4 ADD ReSTOR in her first eye several weeks ago and a 3 ADD yesterday. She was thrilled when she looked at the monitor and said, “Well, now I don’t have to sit so close to my computer anymore!”(The study did suggest, however that bilateral 3 ADDS would be best for the majority of patients.)
  6. All had been told pre-operatively that “for super small print, like the stock quotes, you may occasionally need some readers. But most of your time will be spent out here at 16-24 inches.”
  7. Three of the four signed up for their second eye this morning. The fourth did not have a significant cataract in the non operative eye yet.
